Quepos Part II

June 25, 2014

It's summer! Finally! I have been working a lot this month so pardon my absence. It has been an intense couple of weeks but I hope it will wind down soon and I can have more free time to relax. I hope you are all enjoying the summer so far.
Quepos..Quepos...it's a beautiful town! And you can find a restaurant with an airplane inside. The view from the top of the mountain going down to the beach was magnificient! I was excited to go to the beach when I woke up that day.
The sun greeted us that day and we went straight to the beach after breakfast. I slathered on sunscreen and started tanning right away (I was super pale from the harsh winter).
This view was a great change from the snowy/grey skies we had in Toronto. Bliss!
The cheeky monkeys on the prowl for tourists who will give them food. I did not feed the monkeys. I tried not even coming close because I know they are not well behaved. The other tourists though were feeding the monkeys. Not sure if they should have been doing that.
The monkeys do take belongings so you have to be careful and watch your things. They will take sunglasses, food, camera, anything they can get their hands on. I always had my things in a backpack just in case I go in the water. Do not leave your belongings unattended. It's not safe.
Cute but naughty monkey!
I wish this is my view everyday!

Football (soccer) fever

June 16, 2014

It's that time again, the World Cup! The World Cup fever is here!

My bf is a big football fan so it was no surprise that we had to catch a game when we were in Europe last year. We wanted to watch in Spain but the schedule never aligned with ours. On our last few days in Lisbon, we decided to watch Porto vs. Sporting. We went to the Tourism office and inquired about how to purchase a ticket for the game that night.
We went to the stadium that day and bought our tickets. It was not cheap but definitely worth it for my bf. I was excited for him!
The stadium was huge and it was amazing to experience it live. It was a huge party inside the stadium with people cheering, chanting, and cursing. The energy inside the stadium was contagious!
At some point, I saw smoke bombs inside the stadium. Thankfully, we were in a safe distance from the hooligans.
I learned the hard way that the stadium does not serve alcohol during the game. For very obvious reasons (men + alcohol = sometimes equals a brawl ^^ see above^^). You can either drink water or espresso.
It was an amazing experience and I can only hope that one day I will watch Barcelona live!

Quepos Air bnb house!

June 9, 2014

As you all know, I'm a big fan of Airbnb. I had very positive experiences in renting apartments/room from the site so it wasn't a surprise when I booked a room for our stay in Quepos.

I found an amazing owner of a house in Quepos who was prompt at replying to my e-mails and providing me information about his house. We rented a room and it was wonderful! The house was super clean and we were free to use the outdoor kitchen. The room was modern and everything was brand new! and plus free wi-fi of course ;)
Outdoor kitchen! It was fun cooking outside again and we spent a lot of time in the kitchen/dining area.
During our short stay, we raided the nearest grocery store/market and it was fun shopping for food. I always love grocery shopping when I'm abroad to check out the different produce. We ate a lot of seafood and fish during our trip. It was so much fun cooking in our outdoor kitchen.
The view from the kitchen window. Nothing better than bamboo trees and blue skies.
The property is not huge but it is surrounded by a lot of trees and wildlife. I was looking forward to encountering sloths (after seeing photos from the owner) but sadly I didn't see any.
We did however see this iguana sunbathing outside the garden.
We also became close with the house caretakers. They were the best! Edwin and Yadira made sure we had everything we needed during our stay and even had a birthday celebration for me where we cooked bbq dinner and Yadira baked a cake for me (more on that later..).
This is why I love staying with locals instead of hotels.

**please note this is not a sponsored post. I just really like Airbnb**

Our first day in Quepos was marked by this amazing sunset. Watching it from the beach was phenomenal. I couldn't have wish for a more special day.
