The Pantheon

March 21, 2016

I took art every year in highschool. I loved it! It was my favourite class and I especially fell in love with art history. My art teacher was the best and she used to make the whole class chocolate cupcakes.

When I was in grade 11, we had a optional trip to Italy for our class. It was organized by the school for 1.5 weeks to tour around Italy. It sounded like a dream but it was very expensive and I had no way of paying for the trip. I was so disappointed that I couldn't go. I wanted to see all the art in Italy.

I completely forgot about this memory until I booked my trip to Italy last year and remembered my high school art class. I cannot believe that my dreams finally came through. I visited Italy and saw the Pantheon and paintings that I only looked at in books. It was a very surreal moment! I still pinch myself that I am lucky enough to be able to travel and experience it all with my own earnings. I learned that you should never stop dreaming no matter what age because dreams do come true. You just have to be patient.

Dreams aside, the Pantheon was one of the places I remember from my art class so I absolutely had to visit this place in Rome. It's an impressive building especially the dome. We got there when it started raining and the drops of rain started pouring in the oculus. The rain drops would then hit the floor and the drainage system below the floor handles the rain that falls through the oculus.

  1. I vaguely remember seeing the Pantheon when I visited Rome a few years ago, but I don't think I went inside. Regretting it now! It looks beautiful.

  3. I love this, and I completely agree. I wanted to study abroad in Spain SO badly and couldn't make it for many reasons. When I finally went, I was fulfilling a huge dream, and when I was looking through high school memories recently I found a calendar of Spain... I had visited almost all of the places!
