Procida Part I

 

I have been saving posting this until the very end. Ooh Procida! If you watched the movie "The Talented Mr. Ripley" then my photos will be familiar as the movie was partly shot on this island. I completely forgot about it until I saw photos on instagram. 

I picked this island because it was quiet. I wanted a peaceful but picturesque island to visit on a day trip from Naples.

We picked the slower boat for this trip. It was a great choice because we snapped photos along the way. If we took the high speed boat, it would have been impossible to take photos while riding the boat. 

We lucked out on the weather being sunny so we stayed at the top deck to enjoy the view! I think the ferry was only 9 Euros each way.

Of course, my first order of business (aside from taking some photos) was finding a gelato shop. I had two scoops of gelato before we proceeded to walk around. I just couldn't function without it in Italy!

Church of Gesu Nuovo

The exterior of this church is so simple that you can walk past it and not realize the hidden gem inside. I'm glad that our curiosity lead us inside this church.

I know the saying that "once you see one church, you have seen them all". But I disagree because no one church was the same in Rome and Naples. Each one was different and distinctive. Each one had a different personality and mood to it. Even the exteriors are all different. And I like that very much.

The church of Gesu Nuovo has the dramatic intensity of Baroque architecture. I loved the dramatic frescoes, the grand sculptures, and opulence that it projected.

What I Ate: Nabe

It was winter when we went to Tokyo this year. It was windy and cold. I was also not feeling well so we stayed at our area most of the time for dinner. We had a lot of options for food. And one night, we went to a random restaurant and ordered nabe (hot pot). We had a bit of communication problem with our server but once we showed him a picture of what we wanted. Everything was understood and he brought out this pot for us to enjoy for dinner. With beer of course! 

The broth was creamy and I liked the fact that the pot had more veggies than meat. The tofu was so creamy and delicious!

Life Update 2.0

Hello!!! I hope you're all doing well and had a good Halloween. I pretty much miss it every year since that's when I take my holidays. I don't mind it because I don't particularly like dressing up. 

If you follow me on Instagram then you already know that I went to Hong Kong and Philippines. This was my second trip to Asia this year. This was my redeeming trip since I had a particularly bad one in Japan & Taiwan because I was ill. 

This time around was amazing!!! I'm so glad I decided to go to Hong Kong because I love it there! I avoided to go there for some personal reasons and I am totally kicking myself now because I should have gone there sooner. But you can't rush fate so it's ok. It all worked out in the end. 

I feel so energized being back! I have a lot of ideas and a lot of stories to tell. 

It's always hard coming home after a really good trip but reality beacons. I did miss my bed and my couch but I don't miss cleaning up and doing laundry.

The plane ride back was rough though. The lady sitting beside me spilled her wine and splashed some on my shoes and my new bag! I couldn't even clean them until we all finished our meal. Thankfully, it mostly came off. I know it was an accident but she proceeded to get more red wine after it. I just kept praying she doesn't spill it again.

I barely slept this time around. I just couldn't get comfortable. I really try to like Air Canada but it's so hard. They serve the same food every time! No variation at all. I flew Cathay to Philippines and I didn't get the same meal twice. And they have more new movies! Like tons more! Air Canada has barely 15 new releases on a 14 hour flight!
