Coba ruins part 2

 The Nohoch Mul pyramid
 120 steps to the top
made it to the top, finally!
scary going down as it was going up
Each site was about 10 to 15 minutes walk. I was dreading climbing up the Nohoch Mul pyramid but there was no going back. I had to do it in my flip flops (not a smart idea!). It was already mid-day when we started climbing. I was too afraid to look up so I had to crawl up and concentrated my thoughts with each step up. I wanted to give up; it was hot and very humid. Sweat was dripping down my head and my legs were shaking. I took breaks in between and finally made it to the top. I was so relieved. I had to rest and cool down.

Going down the pyramid was also tricky. I couldn't stand up because I was afraid I was going to slip and fall. The rocks were really sharp so I had to sit down and use my butt to descend. The rope in the middle of the pyramid helped guide me down. My legs were so sore when I finally made it safely down. My mother on the other hand was smiling from ear to ear as if nothing happened. She hardly broke a sweat climbing up and down.

We hired a pedicab to go back to our minivan. I had to treat myself to a popsicle when we made it back to the entrance.

Travel Guide: Prince Edward County, Ontario

October 26, 2012

ACCOMMODATION:
Angeline's Inn - read my review about my experience. I love this bed & breakast. Don't miss the shirred eggs for breakfast (but you must order in advance).
RESTAURANTS:
Buddha Dog - amazing hotdogs
Slickers Ice-Cream - Prepare for a long line up because this is everyone's favourite! but it's worth the wait!!!
Cider House Company Restaurant - Must have lunch at their outdoor patio. I love their pizza and pate!
East & Main Bistro - A nice fine dining restaurant. It came highly recommended by my sister.  Always make a reservation in advance. I fell in love with the moscovy duck!!! Sorry no photos, I was too busy eating ;)
The Painted Peppercorn -homemade cooking at it's best!
The Marshmallow Room - 260 Bloomfield Main Street. I bought freshly baked bread here and it was soooo good and super amazing price!
Chesterfield Homegrown Cafe - I went back here twice because the food was amazing and the price is really reasonable! Don't forget to order Primo Donna's grilled panini.

WINE TASTING:
I highly recommend picking up the Wine Trail map to explore all the wineries in the region.

SHOPPING:
Hagerman Farms- farm fresh produce. Loved shopping here for veggies to bring home to the city.

MUST SEE:
Sandbanks Provincial Park - You can either go for the day or go camping. Enjoy the sand dunes!

What I ate: Mexico

October 25, 2012

Eating in my Mexico became my sport! I just love all-inclusive resorts! Lots of food but my only complaint is variety. Our resort actually had a very continental menu and I was hoping for more Mexican food.

I was obsessed with eating the nachos from our buffet!

Coba ruins Part 1

October 24, 2012

I was looking forward to visiting the Mayan ruins when we booked our trip. We were browsing outside our resort when we were approached by tour companies promising lower priced tours. My Mom and I decided to wait until we met with our Tour Operator from Sunwing before booking any tours.

I'm so glad we waited because if we have booked from the outside companies, we would have been stuck inside a large tour bus and a completely different experience.

The cost of our tour for the whole day was $100. It included pick up & drop off from our hotel. We were picked up around 7:30am from our hotel. We had a medium sized van with 8 people plus our driver and guide.

The tour also included a traditional Mayan lunch, a visit to a cenote (sinkholes), tour of a Mayan village, and shopping.
ballgame court
La Iglesia
From our resort to Coba was about an hour drive. My Mom originally wanted to go to Chichen Itza but the drive there is 3 hours long. We would have spent 6 hours riding the bus plus you can't climb the ruins anymore.

It was really humid when we got to the entrance of the ruins. Only 2% of the site has been excavated. Our guide, Glen was really amazing! He was very thorough at explaining all the sites to us.

From the entrance you have to walk about 10 minutes to get to the first part of Coba. We saw one of the ballgame courts as well as the La Iglesia.

You have the option of walking to each sites or hiring a pedicab for about $9 for 2 people. We opted to walk going to the all the sites and took the pedicab back. I highly suggest wearing running shoes (unlike me in flip flops), bring bug spray, water, and hat.

I want to start Monday right by sharing things that fire me up. I found this through Sarah's blog. She is truly an inspiration! If you would like to make your own go here.

Once upon a time in Mexico...

October 18, 2012

Reading "Is everyone hanging out without me? (and other concerns)" by Mindy Kaling
I was supposed to go to Europe with my family members but things changed and my mom and I decided we should just go to Mexico for a week instead. I was little hesitant to go on vacation with my Mom because we have never spent a lot of time together. And a week seemed like a month to me but my Mom's birthday was coming up so I said yes.

I'm glad that I went with my Mom because we bonded and had such an amazing time together. The first couple of days in Mexico was a little stressful for me because I was trying to adjust being together with her 24/7 but it all worked out in the end.

We spent a lot of time lounging the beach and thankfully my friend lent me his Kobo reader and I read uninterrupted at the beach for hours. It's such a nice luxury to do nothing all day.

The weather was perfect when we arrived and throughout the week as well. It only rained mostly at night and it was only for a couple of minutes. Every day was sunny and hot!

Hola!

October 15, 2012

I'm back after a week in Playa del Carmen, Mexico! I had a blast with my Mom. We met so many people and danced our hearts out!! I didn't expect that I would have so much fun. All my expectations were shattered and I fell in love with Mexico especially everyone from our resort.
